Speaker Bios:
Douglas Carney is a Registered Architect in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania and is certified by the National Council of Architects Registrations Boards. He has been a member of the Pennsylvania Architects Licensure Board. Doug is known as an expert in Healthcare Real Estate, Facilities Master Planning, Construction Program Management, and Engineering Operations.
He has been the System Senior Vice-President and Chief Facilities Officer for Mount Sinai Health System and Icahn School of Medicine in New York, and had similar roles at Mass General Brigham in Boston, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Raffaela Dunne has 30 years of experience in ground-up development, repositioning assets and properties, and public-private partnerships. Raffaela’s current focus is on developing healthcare and higher education facilities as VHB’s Northeast Institution Market Leader. She is equipped with senior-level experience managing and executing complex institutional projects and works closely with project teams to build consensus among multi-tiered stakeholder groups, manage intricate entitlement processes, and realize mission-driven campus solutions.
Beginning her journey with AMFP NYC in 2021, Raffaela currently sits on the organization’s Board of Directors as the Director of Conversations and is the President of AMFP’s North/Central Jersey Chapter. Raffaela is also the co-chair of the Health and Life Science Committee for the NY Building Congress. She is passionate about supporting women professionals in the AEC industry, serving as a mentor for young women and as a member of the Ambassador Council for Non-Traditional Employment for Women.
Roger McClean has 20 years of experience in healthcare operations and construction management. From 2012- 2020 he led the development of the David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care at Memorial Sloan Kettering, a LEED Gold certified 750,000 square foot building that offers inpatient and outpatient multi-specialty services. Most recently, Roger was leading the development of the MSK Pavilion project which will be a 900,000 square foot state-of-the-art cancer care facility that will house advanced technology, including cutting-edge robotics, improved digital infrastructure, and enhanced operating/procedure suites.
Roger holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Hartford and Master of Science in Construction Management from New York University.
Brandon Reiner is a partner in Tannenbaum Helpern’s Construction & Design Law group whose practice is largely focused on representing owners and developers of hospitals and medical facilities. Brandon’s practice includes representing developers, owners, landlords, tenants, contractors and professionals in connection with construction projects throughout the country, including ground up developments, renovations of existing buildings, landlord or tenant build-outs and daily operations of existing buildings. Brandon drafts, reviews and negotiates construction management agreements, architectural services agreements, various construction contracts and professional services agreements.
Brandon counsels both project owners and adjacent property owners on their rights with respect to access, including the negotiation of license agreements. As construction projects progress, Brandon advises clients on issues such as liens and bonding, change order disputes, other contractual issues and defective work. Additionally, Brandon drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts for the daily operations of buildings, including telecommunications, marketing, maintenance and SaaS. Brandon’s experience throughout the lifecycle of construction projects and his understanding of the daily business operations of building owners makes him a trusted advisor to his clients. Brandon is Co-Chair, Construction Law Committee, New York State Bar Association: Real Property Law Section and a member of the Association of Medical Facility Professionals.
James J. (Jim) Terry, a partner at Zetlin & De Chiara LLP, is a successful litigator, negotiator and advocate specializing in the resolution of complex design, development and construction management disputes across the spectrum of the built environment. In practice for more than four decades, his portfolio includes construction defect claims, bid protests, change orders, liquidated damages, delays, cumulative impact claims, lost productivity, acceleration and inefficiency claims for national and international clients. Jim resolves disputes involving construction contract and tort issues through mediation, arbitration and litigation. He has defended or secured more than hundreds of millions of dollars in claims and settlements on behalf of his clients.
Jim devotes a significant portion of his practice to contract preparation, and he has negotiated and drafted construction management contracts for major real estate development projects in the academic, institutional, cultural, hospitality, medical, retail and office sectors. Prior to joining Zetlin and De Chiara, he served as Vice President/General Counsel of F.J. Sciame Construction Co., Inc. Earlier, as a Litigation Partner of an international law firm, Jim served as the lead appellate attorney in a significant and precedent-setting win for his client and benefiting similarly situated industry participants.
